A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.

Overview of a CASA position:

A CASA volunteer provides a judge with a carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a sound decision about that child’s future. Each home placement case is as unique as the child involved. The CASA volunteer recommends if it is in the child’s best interest to stay with his or her parents or guardians, be placed in foster care, or be freed for permanent adoption. The CASA volunteer makes a recommendation on placement to the judge, and follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved. To prepare a recommendation, the CASA volunteer advocate talks with the child, parents, family members, social workers, school officials, health providers and others who are knowledgeable about the child’s history.

The CASA volunteer also reviews all records pertaining to the child such as school, medical, social worker reports, and other documents.

This is an amazing opportunity to have a deep impact on a child's life.

This gently used equipment is then gifted to members of the community with a medical and financial need.

FREE delivers results to the communities it serves. By gifting equipment, we help recipients return as active members to their communities. Our gifts reduce the number of falls, hospitalizations and ER visits, saving millions of dollars each year in healthcare costs. The need in Richmond is significant, documented and unmet. FREE is starting up a chapter in Richmond, which is expected to be operational in the 4th quarter of 2010. We have a small group of core volunteers who are working on the launch. Most are from the local healthcare community. Through experience in other chapters, we know that the ideal chapter is a mix of community leaders from the medical and non-medical community. We are seeking volunteers to serve with the Richmond chapter as volunteers to work on several committees, including equipment cleaning and gifting, PR, fundraising, finance and volunteer recruiting. This meal can be home-cooked at our house or yours or you may bring dinner from your favorite restaurant. Guests spend long hours at the hospital, and really appreciate the break from cooking. Often they will come back to the House just for the dinner, which gives them a break from the hospital, as well as time to socialize in a relaxed setting with the other parents. Some examples of delicious meals we have had are chicken, roast beef, ham and casseroles.

We ask that volunteers cook for between 10 and 15 people, but that they call the day before to find out an exact number. Meals should be at the House by 6 pm on the day scheduled. Groups of 4 or less may cook at the House. Larger groups must cook off site and drop off prepared meals. We also have a gas grill available for grilling.

Volunteers may choose to drop off dinners to be cooked or reheated anytime during the day. Volunteers are not required to serve meals (even if they choose to cook in the house).
Ronald McDonald House Charities creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well being of children worldwide. Our core program, the Ronald McDonald House, provides housing for families with children receiving medical care in the Richmond area.

The Family Dinners Volunteer provides a meal for our families' dinner. This meal can be home-cooked or you may bring dinner from your favorite restaurant. Guests spend long hours at the hospital, and really appreciate the break from cooking. Often they will come back to the House just for the dinner, which gives them a break from the hospital, as well as time to socialize in a relaxed setting with the other parents. Some examples of delicious meals we have had are chicken, roast beef, ham and casseroles, (but we do get quite a bit of lasagna!).

We ask that volunteers cook for between 10 and 15 people, but that they call the day before to find out an exact number. Meals should be at the House by 6 pm on the day scheduled. Groups of 4 or less may cook at the House. Larger groups must cook off site and drop off prepared meals.

We welcome volunteers of all ages.
