Shalom Farms and United Methodist Urban Ministries of Richmond: Begun in the fall of 2008, Shalom Farms is a nonprofit community farm project with the overarching goal of increasing food security in the Richmond region, particularly in low-income urban neighborhoods. The project aims to provide fresh and healthy produce to under-served communities as well as educational training to children and adults on growing food, nutrition, and food-based entrepreneurship.
If you're interested in organic and sustainable agriculture, or getting healthy food to hungry people, come on out! No experience necessary.
Volunteer tasks may vary depending on the project date and season. However, tasks may include mulching beds, raking, weeding, staking plants, planting, and shoveling/pitchforking hay. Tools and gloves will be provided.
Required Attire: closed-toed shoes, long pants, sunscreen and/or hat. Please bring water as well.
Minimum age to volunteer: 18
