Get HandsOn. Volunteer.
***This Project is not managed by HandsOn Greater Richmond and is not led by a HandsOn Team Leader. Instead, it is managed and led by a representative of the partner agency being served. So anyway enough of that... get out there and volunteer. ***

FREE: Volunteers for Chapter Startup

Agency: Foundation for Rehabilitation Equipment and Endowment

Description:

FREE is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to provide mobility related rehab equipment to enhance independence and improve quality of life of adults in Virginia that have no other means of obtaining the equipment they need.

The equipment is donated by members of the community through Goodwill drop off centers and is refurbished and sanitized by FREE volunteers. This gently used equipment is then gifted to members of the community with a medical and financial need. FREE delivers results to the communities it serves. By gifting equipment, we help recipients return as active members to their communities. Our gifts reduce the number of falls, hospitalizations and ER visits, saving millions of dollars each year in healthcare costs. The need in Richmond is significant, documented and unmet.

FREE is starting up a chapter in Richmond, which is expected to be operational in the 4th quarter of 2010. We have a small group of core volunteers who are working on the launch. Most are from the local healthcare community.

Through experience in other chapters, we know that the ideal chapter is a mix of community leaders from the medical and non-medical community. We are seeking volunteers to serve with the Richmond chapter as volunteers to work on several committees, including equipment cleaning and gifting, PR, fundraising, finance and volunteer recruiting.
